It’s miserable for everyone. That’s why we use directional infrared (IR) tech in our Weinig replacement lamps. Instead of letting the heat wander, we point it exactly where it needs to go: the workpiece. You stop fighting the room temperature and start actually heating the material.
How the heating actually works
Most generic lamps throw heat in every direction—a full 360-degree blast. It’s a waste. We use specific reflectors and emitter coatings to squeeze those IR waves into a tight, linear beam. Because the heat doesn’t scatter, the air around the machine stays much cooler. Your operators aren’t sweating through their shirts, and your HVAC system can finally take a break.
Getting the replacement right
When a lamp burns out and you’re swapping it, you’ve got to be careful with the wattage and voltage. It has to match your machine’s power rail exactly. If it’s off, the lamp will probably die early or just won’t get the material hot enough. Our replacements are drop-ins. They fit the original footprint, so the beam hits the target zone right where it should. **One quick tip:**Check your reflector while you’re in there. If it’s dirty or pitted, that directional magic disappears, and the heat just bounces right back into the machine housing.
A few things to keep in mind
Because directional IR is so concentrated, the heat is intense. This means you have to be mindful of your feed speed. If the workpiece is misaligned or the conveyor stutters, you might scorch the wood because the heat is so focused. You’ll want to dial in your speed to match the lamp’s output. Once you’ve got that calibration dialed in, you can forget about that heavy “heat soak” feeling you get with those old-school industrial heaters. It’s just cleaner.
