If you’re chasing that high-end, mirror-like gloss on a floor, it all comes down to a balancing act. You need to flash-cure the topcoat fast—really fast—but if you do it wrong, you’ll boil the solvent and ruin the whole batch. That’s where our shortwave infrared (SWIR) lamps come in. A lot of the big players in flooring are switching over to our tubes because they pack the same punch as the European brands, but you don’t have to wait months for shipping. The trick to the shine To get that glass look, you need a burst of intense heat right on the surface. Shortwave IR hits the coating and triggers a rapid reaction. We use halogen-filled quartz tubes to crank up the wattage density, which gives the resin a moment to flow and level out before it locks in place. If the heat creeps up too slowly? You get “orange peel” or those annoying little bubbles. Our lamps are built to hit the exact temperature you need in a matter of seconds. The gear under the hood We designed these tubes to be simple drop-in replacements. You just pick the length and wattage that fits your conveyor speed, and you’re good to go. We use high-purity quartz so they don’t burn out the moment things get hot. But here’s a heads-up: these lamps put out a massive amount of energy. If your reflector housing is dirty or warped, you’re going to see hot spots on the wood. Keep those reflectors polished. It’s the only way to make sure the finish looks the same from one end of the board to the other. Setting it up on the floor Wiring is pretty straightforward, but don’t mess around with your power supply. Voltage spikes are killer for halogen lamps. I always suggest using dedicated SCR controllers to dial in the power. It lets you tweak the heat depending on the wood species or how thick the coating is.
