The Specs That Actually Matter
Here’s the thing—these heaters are designed to run on a standard 400V supply, and you’ll often see them rated at 2500W. That power level hits a sweet spot: it delivers enough radiant heat to cure ink quickly, without making the heater itself bulky. The tube length is usually around 300mm, and that’s intentional. It keeps the heat focused right where you need it—on the print. That means more consistent temperature across the surface, and less wasted energy heating air instead of ink. Running high voltage at the heater terminals also helps. For the same power, you get lower current. Lower current means you can use smaller wiring, smaller contactors, and you won’t lose power to voltage drop over longer runs. On a press where the heater might sit a meter or more from the control cabinet, that detail actually matters.
What’s Inside, and Why It Works
The heart of these heaters is a halogen-filled quartz tube. Quartz handles the shock of turning on and off quickly without cracking, and it stays stable over time. Then there’s the halogen cycle—it keeps the filament clean by redepositing evaporated material back onto the element. In practice, that means longer life than you’d get from a standard incandescent design. And when it comes to hooking up, the R7s connector is the practical choice. It gives you a secure, two-point contact that can handle the high operating temps, and it makes the heater a straightforward drop-in replacement. If your machine uses something different—like an Sk15—we build the heater to match that interface, so you can wire it in without having to rework the fixture.
Where It Shines, and How to Keep It Happy
Screen printing halogen heaters really shine when you need fast drying in tight spaces and every second counts. They deliver serious heat density, so the ink cures fast and you can keep the line moving at higher speeds. But there’s a trade-off: that concentrated energy needs proper cooling and airflow around the lamp and reflector. If you run the lamp at full power nonstop, the parts around it will take a beating. Set up the mounting with enough clearance, manage the airflow, and you get a drying step that’s reliable—and repeatable.
