
Making Your Sidel Matrix IR Replacement Actually Work
If you’ve ever tried to swap out an infrared module on a Sidel Matrix, you know that just hitting a wattage number doesn’t cut it. It’s not that simple. If the heat doesn’t hit the preform exactly right, you’re looking at a headache of inconsistent bottles and a lot of wasted plastic. We build our IR modules to be a mirror image of the original. The goal is simple: you plug them in, and they just work. You won’t have to spend your afternoon messing with PID settings or rewriting the machine’s logic just to get the temperature right.
The trick to getting the heat right
Here is the thing about thermal profiles. It’s a balancing act between voltage, wattage, and the actual length of that quartz tube. If you get the wattage right but the tube is too long, the heat spreads out too much. You end up with cold spots in your PET. To stop that, we spec our filaments to match the exact ohms-per-millimeter of the OEM part. It means the energy hitting the plastic is exactly where it needs to be, every single time.
The materials part
We don’t cut corners on the glass. We use high-purity quartz with specific halogen doping. Why? Because it stops the filament from evaporating too fast. It keeps the light steady for thousands of hours so you aren’t replacing these things every few weeks. Depending on your specific Matrix setup, we also add selective coatings to the tube. This nudges the infrared emission to the specific wavelength that PET loves to absorb. And since we use standard industrial connectors, these are true drop-in replacements. No rewiring your racks. No modifying the footprint. Just swap and go.
A quick reality check
These lamps put out a massive amount of heat, and they do it fast. While our modules match the OEM output perfectly, keep an eye on your oven’s cooling blowers. If your ventilation filters are clogged with dust, that ambient heat has nowhere to go, and it’ll eat your lamp life alive. Keep the airflow clear, and your quartz will last as long as it’s supposed to.
